Review of The Floating Formation EP by Manchester Music
24th Aug 2004
By Anthony Murray
The melodic and catchy beats of Lemonjelly are replicated by new band OKJunior infused with some Stone Roses and Verve. The Floating Formation EP, released on Seldom Records, is their first stab at displaying their work in the public arena.
The majestic In a Car, Raining got its first airing on London's XFM, which led to the distorted and dark sounds of OKJunior - who are Mark and Jon - being signed by Seldom Records. The EP was created at their flat in London. The Cardiff-born duo moved to the capital at the end of 2003 and seven months later were signed with an EP in hand.
A more upbeat Fade creates a different and more enlightening sound, while grabbing a feeling of the Stone Roses. El Monstro Marino shows they can create a more happy Verve sound while holding on to some of its darker attitude.
It's a unique sound that is hard to find anywhere else at this moment - remember where you first heard about OKJunior.
